Bayern Munich were back to their rampant best as Luis Diaz's hat-trick helped them to a 6-1 victory over RB Leipzig, which took them top of the Bundesliga.
Bayern Munich 6-1 RB Leipzig: Diaz and Kane star to send Kompany's men top
Bayern Munich recorded another big win on home soil in the Bundesliga, brushing aside RB Leipzig with a six-goal showing.
Diaz also got an assist, while Harry Kane – on his 100th Bundesliga appearance – got a goal and set up two more, with Aleksandar Pavlovic and Michael Olise on the scoresheet as well.
Kane fired straight at Maarten Vandevoordt inside the first two minutes, and though Leipzig showed some threat immediately after, Bayern soon took charge.
Diaz got his first goal in the 12th minute, racing in behind to meet Joshua Kimmich's throughball and emphatically lashed home the opener.
Kimmich and Dayot Upamecano then tested Vandevoort as Bayern chased a second, which arrived in the 26th minute as Diaz picked out Pavlovic for a tight-angled drive.
Olise saw a shot tipped onto the post shortly after but got on the scoresheet 34 minutes in, with a low curler from the edge of the box after being picked out by Kane.
Diaz forced a smart stop out of Vandevoort before the break but got the better of the Belgian again 95 seconds into the second half, cutting inside from the left to curl a lovely strike into the bottom-right corner.
Kane kept pushing and finally got a goal to mark his landmark appearance in the 52nd minute, turning in from close range after it was put on a plate by Nathaniel Brown.
Leipzig struggled to deal with the pressure, and Diaz got Bayern's sixth in the 69th minute, whipping a stunning curler through the crowded box following a short corner.
The visitors had the final say, though, with their late surge turning into a 91st-minute goal when Andrija Maksimovic cannoned in off the underside of the crossbar.
Bayern shake off the cobwebs
It has been a mixed start to the 2026-27 campaign for Bayern, who have had big wins - 5-1 v Stuttgart and 7-0 v Union Berlin - as well as some questionable draws.
In the last week, they drew 2-2 with Augsburg and followed it up with a last-gasp draw against Viking in the Champions League, but they were back to their free-scoring best on Saturday.
Bayern registered 17 shots on target against Leipzig (29 attempts overall), their highest tally in a Bundesliga match since August 2022, when they managed 20 against Borussia Monchengladbach.
They are also the first team in Bundesliga history to score 18 goals in their opening three home games of a season, surpassing their own previous record of 17, set in the 2020-21 campaign.
Diaz was the star of the show, netting his second Bundesliga hat-trick and was directly involved in four goals in a single match in the competition for the first time.
As for Kane, he scored his 102nd Bundesliga goal, more than any other player has managed in their first 100 games in the competition, while his two assists also mean he has nine goal involvements this term (four goals, five assists).
But it was a demoralising result for Martin Demichelis' side, even with Vandevoort making 11 saves (a new record for a Leipzig goalkeeper in a single Bundesliga match).
