Maresca: Sancho’s future will be decided soon
Enzo Maresca provided an update on Jadon Sancho’s Chelsea future after he helped secure Champions League football and a European trophy.
Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca will discuss Jadon Sancho’s future at the club with the board following their Conference League triumph.
The Blues became the first team to win the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League after beating Real Betis 4-1 on Wednesday to complete the set.
Sancho netted Chelsea’s third of the night, one of 13 goal involvements for the forward this season, scoring five times and providing eight assists.
It is his highest total of goal involvements in a campaign since he left Borussia Dortmund for Manchester United in 2021.
The 25-year-old featured in 41 games, starting 26, and accumulated 5.8 expected assists from 55 chances created as Chelsea also secured a spot in the Champions League for next season.
Maresca acknowledged Sancho’s impact in both the club’s league and European achievements, though a call has not yet been made on whether Chelsea will keep the Man United loanee.
"I said yesterday in the press conference. From now on we are going to sit with the club and decide what happens for next year," said Maresca.
“If we finish fourth it is also because of Jadon, if we win tonight it is also because of Jadon. It is normal in a season to go a little bit up and down, it is part of the game."
Sancho's contract at United runs until the end of next season.
Chelsea have an obligation to buy Sancho, though according to reports, they could pay a fee to avoid that clause.
