London City Lionesses complete signing of Diani from Lyon
Kadidiatou Diani has become London City Lionesses' sixth signing of a blockbuster transfer window following her exit from Lyon.
London City Lionesses' impressive summer transfer window continued on Wednesday after announcing the arrival of Kadidiatou Diani from Lyon.
Diani has put pen to paper on a three-year contract with the Women's Super League side, with the reported transfer believed to be in excess of £500,000.
The 31-year-old officially announced her departure from the eight-time European Champions on Monday and has quickly found a new club ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
During her time at Lyon, who she joined from Paris Saint-Germain in 2023, Diani made 93 appearances across all competitions, scoring 41 goals.
She netted five goals and two assists in 16 Premiere Ligue outings last season as Lyon won their 19th title, and she also helped her team reach the Women's Champions League final, but was unable to play in the showpiece defeat against Barcelona after sustaining a knee injury.
However, Diani is now relishing the chance to play in the WSL and is hoping to help London City not only qualify for Europe but also add silverware to their trophy cabinet.
"It is an opportunity for me to discover a new country, a new city, a new team, and I can't wait to start this next chapter," said Diani.
"It's an independent club and very ambitious. It's something which is quite rare in women's football and something I believe in a lot.
"We have objectives – to win as many matches as possible and qualify for the Champions League. Winning a trophy for this club would be brilliant too.
"I think we are going to experience a very beautiful season."
Diani will be reunited with London City's billionaire owner, Michele Kang, who also owns Lyon as well as the Washington Spirit.
After finishing their debut WSL campaign in sixth, London City have been busy in the transfer market and have added real quality across their team.
Two-time Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas and Mapi Leon have both swapped Barcelona for London City following the expiration of their contracts this summer.
Former England goalkeeper Mary Earps has also joined, alongside Germany forward Nicole Anyomi and Denmark defender Janni Thomsen.
London City also confirmed that injured captain Kosovare Asllani had signed a new one-year contract extension despite being sidelined with a complex multi-ligament injury.
