Emelec only needed a goalless draw in the second leg against Sporting Cristal to advance to the Copa Sudamericana round of 16, where they will face the Argentine team Defensa y Justicia.

The draw added to the 0-1 victory that the Guayaquil-based team achieved last week as visitors in Lima, in the first leg match.

After finishing in the second position in the Sudamericana group stage, Emelec had to face the Peruvian team that finished third in the Copa Libertadores group stage.
