ESSENTIALS:
The tournament annually attracts top tennis players and visitors from home and abroad. The men’s portion is part of the ATP World Tour 250 tournament and the women's component is part of the WTA International Series Tournaments.
The first edition of the grass tennis tournament in Rosmalen took place in 1989 and was considered a demonstration tournament where eight international tennis players participated. Miloslav Mečíř, winner of the gold at the Olympics in 1988, won on the grass courts at Autotron. A year later, in 1990, the tournament was part of the newly formed ATP Tour.
In 1996 the ladies singles and the doubles were also added to the tournament. Anke Huber was the first tournament winner, while the duos Hlasek / Stich (men) and Neiland / Schultz (ladies) triumphed in the doubles tournament.
Until 2014, the tournament was held a week before Wimbledon. It is considered a perfect preparation tournament for Wimbledon competitors.
In the past the event had several different names including the Heineken Trophy Ordina Open, UNICEF Open and TopShelf Open. Since 2016, the tournament has been known as the RICOH Open.
