Donna Vekic Trying to Focus on Tennis After Nick Kyrgios Saga
After the well-publicized fall-out from Nick Kyrgios' sledge of Stan Wawrinka, Donna Vekic has broken her silence on the matter.
OMNISPORT
Donna Vekic has not spoken with Nick Kyrgios about his controversial sledge of Stan Wawrinka and is focused on putting the incident behind her.
Kyrgios drew the ire of the tennis world during his second-round match with Wawrinka at the Rogers Cup by informing the Swiss that his Australian Davis Cup team-mate Thanasi Kokkinakis had slept with his girlfriend, saying: "Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend. Sorry to tell you that, mate."
The ATP subsequently heeded calls from a furious Wawrinka for the governing body to take action by issuing a fine to Kyrgios, who later offered an apology and has also said sorry to Kokkinakis.
Women's world number 128 Vekic has since been revealed to be the girlfriend in question, having previously been romantically linked with Wawrinka since his divorce from wife Ilham.
And, when asked about the incident by Canadian newspaper The Province, Vekic said: "It's not easy but I'm trying to focus on tennis and my next match
"I haven't spoken to Kyrgios. But it's a very disappointing thing to be happening in our sport and I hope it won't happen again because it's not a very good image for our sport."
When pressed if she felt each player had learned from the episode, she replied: "I hope so."
