Sports Burst - The People v Josep Bartomeu
Josep Maria Bartomeu faces final days in charge of Barcelona as he gives in to democracy to hold immediate referendum on future
By Tim Stannard
Vote of no confidence expected by November 2 as Barcelona squad travels to Turin for Juventus match-up
By November 3, it could all be over and an awful lot of people will be looking at a brighter future in these dark times.
Democracy will reign, the people are set to have their say despite the person in charge casting doubts on whether the voting process is a safe and viable. A president that some see as incompetent, dangerous, dishonest, dithering, and antagonistic could be gone. And Lionel Messi, for one, is set to smile for the first time in years.
Tuesday could see the date of a vote of no-confidence in themselves being announced by Barcelona's big bosses. Despite complaints from Josep Bartomeu that the process is difficult under the current pandemic restrictions in Barcelona, a vote of the Camp Nou club members on whether to remove the current president and board from office with immediate effect might well take place on November 1-2.
Despite rumors that Bartomeu would resign on Monday to avoid such a vote, the Barca president was holding firm claiming that there were "no reasons" to quit - despite the club having three coaches in a year, being beaten 8-2 in the Champions League, losing LaLiga, back to back Clasico defeats to Real Madrid, selling the top striker to a rival for peanuts, suffering a scandal concerning paying a social media company to smear star players, the whole Messi debacle, being publicly slammed by Gerard Pique. And the whole Martin Braithwaite thing. That's just for starters.
It's possible that Bartomeu is hoping for a dramatic feel-good effect in what could be the last two games when he is in charge. The first of those is on Wednesday with the team heading to Italy to take on a Juventus side that is still waiting to see whether Cristiano Ronaldo is cleared for action after suffering COVID-19 and an overly severe buzzcut.

Real Madrid prepare for another Champions League final
Real Madrid fans will obviously be delighted at the prospect of more chaos at Barcelona, although the idea of a united, motivated team playing under a popular club leader may not be in their best long term interests.
In the meantime, the club has its own fish to fry on Tuesday - a Champions League final, no less, according to Coach Zizou.
In actual fact, it's a second round group stage Champions League clash against Borussia Moenchengladbach, but a game the team ideally needs to win to avoid a late scramble to finish in the top two places or face the perils of the Europa League.
Zidane had just the one fire to put out ahead of the game - leaked audio from Isco complaining about the treatment he was receiving from his manager this season - being dropped, playing, being subbed, rinse and repeat. "It's ambition, he wants to play like all players," shrugged Zizou.
The other topic of conversation is the inclusion of Eden Hazard in the party that has travelled to Germany and whether the Belgian would enjoy any action. "We'll see," was the enigmatic response to a game that could see Real Madrid losing four Champions League matches in a row for the first time in club history, should the result go south.
Liverpool takes the stage on beIN SPORTS
Elsewhere in the Champions League, Marseille will enjoy being back in the Champions League spotlight with a match against a very wobbly Manchester City. The visitors are set to be without Kun Aguero and are low on confidence, lodged in 13th in the EPL standings.
The boisterous effulgence of Diego Simeone will be facing the boisterous effulgence of Jesse Marsch in a touchline prance-off between the two managers as Atletico Madrid host RB Salzburg.
Meanwhile, Liverpool will be in action on beIN SPORTS. Liverpool of Uruguay to be a little more accurate with the Copa Sudamericana returning today, Wednesday and Thursday and the first leg of the second round matches across the beIN SPORTS network.
