Pogba takes medical in return to Man Utd, Inter part ways with Mancini and Jese seals deal with PSG. 5 sporting trials in a modern pentathlon of truth.

1) Pogba arrives in Manchester for medical as Mou sounds work-hard warning
Soon, it will all be over and a calm, peace and sense of serenity will cover the Earth like a comfort blanket of tranquility. Paul Pogba has finally landed in Manchester to undergo a medical. And should all go well and no spine-clinging alien parasitic lifeforms be found using the French midfielder as a host body – which would explain a lot - then Pogba will finally become a Man United man over the next few days.
Pogba finds Manchester United in fine fettle. The club picked up its first silverware of the season with Sunday’s Community Shield win over Leicester City, King Zlatan scored the winner and Jose Mourinho got to continue his bullying of Juan Mata by throwing the Spaniard on as a sub and then taking him off before the final whistle. For being too small.
The Special One naturally wanted to exert his authority over Pogba as well, warning that the midfielder would need to work hard to get into his Manchester United team.
2) Inter’s manic Monday sees Mancini out de Boer in
Inter Milan and Roberto Mancini have decided that they simply can't get on and parted ways. Disputes over contracts, player transfers and who forgot to turn on the dishwasher on Sunday night see Mancini temporarily moving to a friend's spare room till he can get his life back together. Frank de Boer is set to take over.
In a farewell message the former Man City man bade a fond farewell to the Serie A club. “I wish Inter and the fans a future full of happiness and hope they achieve their sporting targets.”
Over at AC Milan, the previously dormant transfer of striker, Carlos Bacca, to West Ham United is now showing some renewed signs of life.
3) Jese makes move to PSG as Madrid set off for Super Cup challenge
Real Madrid have confirmed the transfer of Jese to PSG. The home-grown forward will find whole new venues for his comedy music videos in the French capital as he pens a reported five-year deal for $27million.
Despite the local papers roaring in pride about the lion-like top-knot titan Gareth Bale returning to training from his summer holidays in fine fettle, the Welshman did not make the final cut for Tuesday's UEFA Super Cup clash against Sevilla.
Both Bale and Ronaldo are missing from the list as is German midfielder, Toni Kroos and Pepe who is still on vacation trying to move solid objects with the power of his mind. 4) Neymar’s Olympic nightmare continues with another dull disaster
Neymar's pre-season of partying and hanging with American teen idols seems to working a treat - if being hopeless, along with the rest of his Brazilian teammates at the Olympics was the main goal. The host nation could only manage a goalless draw against Iraq, to go with Thursday's against South Africa. And that did not go down well with the home crowd.
When Neymar returns to Barcelona - which could be very soon indeed - the Brazilian will find one less friendly face to greet him. Defender Thomas Vermaelen is in Italy to complete a loan deal to Roma. However, Andre Gomes will be there as the Portuguese playmaker starts training with Barca today.
5) Phelps increases legendary status as tennis superpowers slump
Team USA delivered in the pool overnight. Michael Phelps managed his 19th gold medal with a win in the men's 4x100m freestyle relay. Katy Ledecky won the 400m freestyle gold, shattering the world record in the process.
However, it was shock city in the tennis with both Novak Djokovic losing in the men’s single first-round to Juan Martin del Potro. And the Williams sisters went out in the first round of the women’s doubles. Today’s highlights include…pretty much every sport ever invented.
