Cristiano Ronaldo leads Champions League charge for Juventus to avoid another goalless day of despair
By Tim Stannard
CR7 returns to Madrid to continue Juve's Champions League project against Atletlco
The Wednesday morning vibe may still be a state of stupefied sporting shock after Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Lyon and Barcelona managed to score zero goals between them in the Champions League on Tuesday, but don't worry...the end of this drought of despair is nigh.
Two free-wheeling, attack-attack-attack, defense-be-damned teams are going head-to-head in the Spanish capital today and the sporting forecast is goals, goals, goals.
Actually. That might not be entirely accurate.
Atletico Madrid and Juventus are playing. One side has been married for some time to the idea of goals being a vulgarity. The other is Italian.
However, the one bright shining light in this darkness is Cristiano Ronaldo himself. The man lured to Italy to win the Champions League for Juventus will be at Atletico's Wanda Metropolitano stadium with the mission of thrashing the opposition into submission with a 1-0 win. Heck, maybe even 2-0. Let's be optimistic here after Tuesday's stupor.
Manchester City looks to avoid repeat of Champions League nerves
To be honest, Atletico's home may not be the best place for goals. Germany might be a more positive destination with Schalke 04 hosting Manchester City.
Theoretically, these two teams are completely mismatched despite meeting in the Last 16 of the Champions League. Schalke has had a dreadful season in the Bundesliga and is doing its level best to get dragged into a relegation battle. Again.
Manchester City? Battling to become the first team to retain the Premier League title but also capable of enormous uselessness in Europe - hello Liverpool, last year? - something that has been a bit of a burden on Pep Guardiola's back in his spell in Manchester.

Sarri blames too many games for Chelsea’s failing form
Sports Burst never thought it would write these words due to an inherent bias in its DNA against the Europa League…but let’s have a look at the Europa League. Or more accurately, two curious stories surrounding the Europa League which returns on Thursday (aside from Sevilla v Lazio today).
Starting off with Maurizio Sarri, and the Chelsea boss was talking today ahead of what should be a routine Last 32, second leg home tie against Malmo with Chelsea holding a 2-1 lead. Routine if it weren’t for the fact that Sarri is in football’s equivalent zone of being cancelled by Netflix.
The Italian coach was talking about the struggles of trying to turn around an alarming dip in form and part of the reason that “we don’t have much time on the training pitch at the moment as we are playing every three days.” Let’s just say that Sarri is working hard on eliminating all those pesky extra games at the moment.
The other Europa League story centers around whether Mauro Icardi will make the Inter squad for the game against Rapid Wien. A supposed knee injury and Instagram Thumb might see him miss a third game since having the captaincy removed from him.
PSG in Ligue Un action as Copa Libertadores continues
A quick whip round as it were on the rest of Wednesday's action - all on beIN SPORTS of course.
PSG is in action in Ligue Un - goals are absolutely guaranteed - with a home clash against feisty opponents in the form of Montpelier. A victory will extend PSG's lead at the top of the table to a fairly comfortable 15 points over Lille. And with another match in hand.
That game is live on beIN SPORTS at 3PM ET / 12AM PT. But that's not all. The final round of Copa Libertadores qualifying continues today with two more games. On Tuesday, Melgar took a 2-0 lead against Caracas FC.
Wednesday sees Talleres hosting Palestino at 5:05PM ET / 2:05PM PT followed directly by Defensor Sporting taking on Brazilian giants, Atletico Mineiro. That game is live on beIN SPORTS CONNECT at 7:30PM ET / 4:30PM PT.
And do check our TV guide if Copa Subamericana is your thang, we have that as well.
