Milan: Another One Bites the Dust
Mihajlovic moved on at Milan, Real Madrid look to break comeback curse, Samuel Etoo’s new found love, and so many more crunchy croutons from the soup bowl of sport

1) Silvio Berlusconi pulls plug on other San Siro sucker
Just when beIN SPORTS was tucking itself into bed on Monday night, a story was rumbling across the Atlantic in the early hours of an Italian morning. The word on the pavement café-stuffed street was that Silvio Berlusconi’s sad but stretched face had fallen far too far. And that takes some doing if you catch Sports Burst’s drift. Let’s just say the Milan president would not look out of place on Orange County housewives.
Sinisa Mihajlovic had been fired after Sunday’s home defeat to Juventus, and also a fairly horrible campaign that has left Milan in sixth spot, seven points behind Fiorentina in the last Europa League qualifying spot. In charge for the rest of the season is the club’s youth team coach and former player, Cristian Brocchi.
He becomes the fifth manager to run the San Siro club in the past three seasons. Naturally, there will be a few pros and cons in this particular decision. Camp Silvio says “I spent €150 million and I don’t know when we’ll return to winning”, whilst Camp Sinisa will argue that the club president is an interfering old busy-body. Find out whose right on the XTRA at 10PM ET.
In other news from what has been a tough week for Milan fans, the club has announced that it will be building a memorial park outside the San Siro, in memory of Cesare Maldini, who passed away last week.
2) Real Madrid hoping to avoid Champions League comeback curse
At least the Wolfsburg game is not completely do-or-die for Real Madrid on Tuesday. With a tiny, tiny, glimmer of hope in La Liga, thanks to Barcelona’s epic wobble, the season won’t be completely over should Madrid not overturn the 2-0 result in the Santiago Bernabeu.
Although the club likes to brand itself as the comeback kings in Europe, reality is a little different with Madrid failing to turn around deficits in knockout rounds of the Champions League on the past eight occasions.
But of course, Coach Zizou needs to overlook that and be the king of positivity on a night in the Spanish capital where one goal for the opposition could be very bad news indeed. The front page of ‘Marca’ details the strategy needed from Madrid in the quarterfinal clash – “Cold heads and hot balls.” Indeed. You can catch the highlights and best analysis on the planet of that encounter on the XTRA at 10PM ET.
La Liga also had a managerial firing on Monday too, with Fran Escriba losing his job. The Madrid club, which is currently second-from-bottom, moved quickly to find replacement and announced on Tuesday that Argentinean coach and former number two between 2009 and 2011, Juan Eduardo Esnaider, will take over. His first game in charge will be against Real Madrid on Saturday. That should be fun.
3) Ageless King Zlatan looking to lead PSG into Champions League semis
An early goal or two at the Santiago Bernabeu for whomever could leave a bit of free time to catch the other Champions League clash on Tuesday night, which is set to be an epic – the battle of the Super Sheikhs with Manchester City hosting PSG.
The tie is nicely poised at 2-2 and with Man City following English tradition by not really bothering with the defending concept, it could be a humdinger in the Etihad with some very unhappy, but very rich owners for one set of losers at the end of the night. “Tonight, or never” is the warning from the front cover of French sports daily, L’Equipe.
One of the players out on the pitch is Zlatan Ibrahimovic, although the Swede will be his own temporal anomaly as the longer the game goes on, the younger the Swede is going to get. That’s what King Zlatan claims anyway. You can find out what happens at 10PM ET on the XTRA.
4) Neymar vows never to return to Santos
While Barcelona get ready for what is set to be a huge cage fight against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night in the Champions League, Neymar has been talking to the Brazilian press and says that he will never return to his former club, Santos, unless the current regime are gone. Some kind of tax or contract issue apparently. Not read too much about that.
5) Love for Leicester City builds around the world
Apparently, there is something going on at Leicester City as tickets for the team’s final home game against Everton, when the EPL title could be won, are going for over $3,000 on resale.
The numbers of fans of all things Leicester are growing around the football world with Gianluigi Buffon tweeting a message of congratulations to the club after qualifying for next season’s Champions League and Samuel Eto’o admitting that he had “fallen in love” with the Foxes.
