French Big Cheeses Make Managerial Moves
Marseille look to Brie-th easier as PSG look to snare coaching Rocque-fort Champions League chase. All this and more criminal puns in today’s sporting round-up.

1) Marseille make Michel move as PSG could be firing Blanc
With the immediate response from the rest of the French football-watching world of “what took you so long?”, Marseille have announced the suspension of Spanish manager, Michel, just a day before the team’s Coupe de France semi-final at Sochaux.
Michel has steadily guided Marseille down towards the relegation zone of Ligue Un with just one win on 12 in all competitions. In a curious statement, the French club said that “given the behavior of Michel, especially in the last three weeks, Marseille have suspended him with immediate effect and summoned him to a preliminary hearing.” Sounds like someone didn’t obey the weekly fridge clean-out rules.
Here’s a curious one that sort of makes sense. Those ever infamous “reports” are saying with some gusto that Jose Mourinho has been offered the not-yet-vacant PSG role, currently occupied by Laurent Blanc. Despite heading for a domestic treble, the club’s French coach might be ousted due to PSG’s Champions League expulsion against Manchester City last week. This will be the third formal offer of the past fortnight for Mourinho after Syria and Leeds United made a pitch for the Portuguese provoker.
By coincidence, you can see how PSG get on in their quest to add to the Ligue Un title already won, this season, with a Coupe de France clash at Lorient live on beIN SPORTS at 2.55PM ET.
2) Enrique bites back, Zizou urges caution and Simeone is Steven Seagal as coaches look ahead to Wonderful Wednesday in La Liga
Regular Sports Burst readers may have noted that the previously closed off La Liga title race is now as wide open as Barcelona’s defense these days.
The Big Three are all in action on Wednesday and having been chatting away to the press, in three very different vibes. There were suggestions to Luis Enrique that he was a tad rude to a journalist on Sunday who questioned the team’s physical state. "I replied, I have nothing to be sorry for, I have not disrespected anyone, if you don't like my style I don't care - to put it in an educated manner," said the regretting ‘rien’ Barcelona boss.
Barca are away to Deportivo on and you can catch that game live on beIN SPORTS Español from 1.55PM ET with English commentary on SAP, if you don’t fancy widening your linguistic surroundings, or you happen to be Donald Trump.
Over in Madrid and Zinedine Zidane is trying to dull the embers of enthusiasm a tad by pointing out that the club have won nothing yet but are going to fight to the last minute, etc. Real Madrid’s next challenge will be on Wednesday with the visit of Villarreal which is set to be a touch tougher than recent clashes against Eibar and Getafe which have seen nine goals scored with just one in reply.
At the Vicente Calderon, Diego Simeone was pure Diego Simeone, and continuing to be the Steven Seagal of La Liga – in the Under Siege phase of his career, not now when he can barely get off the sofa to karate-swipe a bad guy. "I'm confident that I don't depend on anyone else, we depend only on ourselves and I say what I think.”
Atletico are up at Athletic Bilbao in a hugely difficult tie that is available on beIN CONNECT from 2.30PM ET on Wednesday. However, the action in La Liga kicks off on Tuesday with Espanyol hosting Celta Vigo and Real Betis taking on Las Palmas. The double-header starts on beIN SPORTS Español from 1.55PM ET but you can see all the highlights on a huge edition of the XTRA at 10PM ET.
3) Napoli look to secure second as a midweek round of Serie A sets off
With nine points to gain on Juventus and just five games to go, the odds are stacked pretty much against Napoli overhauling the Old Lady at the top of the Serie A stair lift. But there is a task in hand to make sure Roma in third do not close the gap on Napoli that currently stands at five. That cushion could be fluffed a little on Tuesday with Napoli hosting Bologna in the first game of a big week of Serie A action. Once again, Napoli will be without the suspended Gonzalo Higuain, but for the last time. Tune in to beIN SPORTS CONNECT from 2.30PM ET for all the action from the Stadio San Paolo.
4) Newcastle United faces relegation wrestle against Manchester City
Tottenham passed their trial by fire against Stoke on Monday to close the gap on Leicester City to five points with four games to go. Now it’s another corker in the EPL with relegation-threatened Newcastle United pretty much having to beat Champions League chasing Manchester City in a terrific Tuesday clash. Catch all the highlights and reaction on the XTRA at 10PM ET.
5) FIFA villains say sorry for stealing, as tennis cleans up in sports awards
FIFA NEWS! Three members of FIFA’s naughty club including a former FIFA vice president, Jeffrey Webb, have said that they are very sorry indeed for getting caught…sorry…for all the bad things that they did with all the bribery and racketeering. All this has been revealed after a US judge released transcripts of guilty pleas of Webb, Argentinian-Italian marketing executive Alejandro Burzaco, and Brazilian intermediary Jose Margulies.
Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams were the big winners in yesterday’s Laureus Awards for sportsman and sportswoman of the year. Jordan Spieth won the award for breakthrough of the year.
