San Mames Enjoys Its First Win Over Real Sociedad
Real Sociedad broke the deadlock at San Mames in the first half but the home team got into their stride after the break and turned the tie around thanks in major part to inept defending.
Club Athletic de Bilbao were able to lift their Basque Derby curse on Sunday, beating Real Sociedad for the very first time at the new San Mames Stadium and putting an end to an eight-game streak without beating their bitter rivals from San Sebastian.
The visitors took the lead through Zurutuza, but a string of defensive errors allowed the Lions to overturn the deficit through Muniain, Aduriz and Williams. Iñigo Martinez pulled one back for Eusebio Sacristan’s men ten minutes from time but it would prove nothing but a consolation goal.
The result leaves Real Sociedad on a paltry 10 points after eight matchdays as they prepare for another clash against Basque opposition, when they host Alaves at Anoeta on Saturday.
