His goal made little difference to the final outcome, but by finding the net in the dying moments of Barcelona’s Champions League final victory over Juventus brought up quite an achievement for the Brazilian. In a season once again defined by the personal dual between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar matched both players as the Champions League’s top goalscorer.
Of course, the Brazilian forward cannot claim to have had the impact on Barca’s treble-winning year that Messi has had - but then nobody can claim to have made the impact that Messi has made. The distinction does however illustrate just how integral Neymar has become to the Catalan club.
