USA Releases Squad To Face Mexico In CONCACAF Playoff Game
Fabian Johnson and DaMarcus Beasley both return in time to bolster the fullback spots for Jurgen Klinsmann's team.
Jurgen Klinsmann has released his 23-man roster United States for the upcoming CONCACAF playoff against Mexico.
Much has been made of the questions on the back line, especially given the struggles of the side in the September friendlies against Peru and Brazil, but Klinsmann welcomes back two potential starters for the playoff.
Fabian Johnson, who missed the September friendlies to injury, is back with his club team Borussia Monchengladbach and, consequently, has returned to the national team fold. Likewise DaMarcus Beasley, who also missed the recent friendlies with a knock, is in position to reclaim his left-back role.
Clint Dempsey also returns for the national team having missed out on the September friendlies.
Barring injury, Brad Guzan will start in goal for the USA, with Tim Howard his backup.
The playoff will take place Oct. 10 (6:30 pm ET), in Pasadena. The winner gets CONCACAF’s spot at the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia.
