Paper Round: Arsenal Revive Nolito Interest, Flush PSG Look To Neymar Or Cristiano
All the latest transfer rumors from the main European papers.
A Rapid agreement for Howard?
Tim Howard, 36, is in talks with Colorado Rapids according to NBC Sports and is nearing an exit. Talks have been progressing and it looks like an career spanning a decade in England could be over for the goalkeeper. The idea from the Rapids side is to bring the Everton man in for May, as they look to bolster their squad for the new season.
A duck lands on English water
Chelsea, meanwhile, are all set to sign Alexandre Pato. The Brazilian has been touted all over Europe this transfer window but it is the West London club that’s taken the bait, according to The London Evening Standard. The 26-year-old will arrive on a six-month loan deal with the option of making the move permanent in the summer, in a move that will only further increase speculation about Radamel Falcao’s future. Corinthians wanted an outright sale for Pato, but were unable to get it.
The Brazilian, seemingly over injury woe and in great form, will now face a Premier League challenge as Guus Hiddink seeks firepower to haul Chelsea up the table.
One Nolito saga ends, another begins?
The Nolito to Barcelona saga has been one droning on for the best part of a year now, but it finally appears to be over. Sport and other major outlets report the deal is officially off, after Celta Vigo refused Barcelona’s payment structure for the player. However, it doesn’t end there. Arsenal are now buoyed by this news, and will resurrect their interest in the Spain international. Arsenal are within touching distance of Premier League leaders Leicester City and with several players such as Theo Walcott struggling, Nolito could be the ideal solution in attacking areas. There is also the bonus that the player hasn’t featured in European competition this season won’t be cup-tied.
Simeone has no time for sentiment
More news from Spain, and this one concerns Fernando Torres. His homecoming to Atletico Madrid hasn’t quite worked out as many dreamed it would, so much so that the club will not offer the striker a contract at the end of the season. It means Torres will have to find a new club as Atleti refuse to bow down to sentiment for a player idolized by the supporters.
Diego Simeone refused to clarify the situation in his press conference yesterday, but did hint the outcome wouldn’t be positive for Torres. “I said the other day there was nothing to say because there wasn’t. I’ve spoken to Fernando and he knows what I think and he’s told me what he thinks” stated the Atleti boss, on the player who has scored only twice in the league this season.
Inter, Ever the opportunists
Inter and not just looking to this window for signings, and apparently have the summer in mind. Sky Italy says that I Nerazzurri have offered Ever Banega a contract in regards to joining the club in July. Banega’s deal with Sevilla is running out and despite reports of a renewal on the table, it seems Inter’s money and ambition to secure a Serie A crown has turned the midfielder’s head. It would be a fine piece of business on a free transfer for Inter and Roberto Mancini, who have struggled in recent seasons to overthrow the might of Juventus’ midfield.
Big money, big plans for PSG
Good news for PSG: they’ve been given the green light to spend as their Financial Fair Play restrictions will be lifted, after balancing the books at the club. Bad news for everyone else: they’re coming for your best players. Top of that list includes Neymar JR and Cristiano Ronaldo. Could it be that Spain’s two heavyweights might get a little lighter this summer?
L’Equipe believe so, stating that 300m will be available for the Parisian outfit to spend on elite stars as they look to assert their dominance in the Champions League. Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski is also on the list of desired players, if PSG decide shopping in Spain isn’t for them.
