Javier Hernandez Says Draw With Argentina Is Perfect Step For Mexico
The forward says Tuesday's draw is a good result for a Mexico team preparing for a playoff against the United States.
Though Mexico allowed two late goals in a draw with Argentina, the 2-2 result was a good one for Mexico, according to forward Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez.
Chicharito scored from the penalty spot in the first half and watched Hector Herrera add a second in the 70th minute. But it wasn't enough as Sergio Aguero tapped in from short range in the 85th minute and Lionel Messi pounded in the equalizer four minutes later to see the teams come away even.
Though Mexico wasn't able to get a win, Chicharito believes the result should provide a boost ahead of an October playoff against the United States to decide CONCACAF's Confederations Cup place.
"Very important to prepare for the biggest game against the USA. We are happy that we drew," Hernandez said after the match. "Usually we would want the victory, but that’s football. Argentina is one of the best national teams in the world, so we need to look forward."
Ultimately, the 27-year-old thinks the September matches during this window will help El Tri interim manager Ricardo "Tuca" Ferretti get a handle on the side ahead of the playoff.
"[The matches] provide some games that are going to help the manager to know about the players, how they develop and how they can put in good performances for the national team," Hernandez said.
