Almiron Becomes Newcastle's All-Time Most Expensive Signing
Newcastle United have splashed out $27million to sign Paraguay international and MLS Cup champion Miguel Almiron
Miguel Almiron's long-anticipated move to Newcastle United was completed on Thursday.
The Paraguay international signed a five-and-half-year contract with the Magpies on transfer deadline day, a deal that will keep him at St James' Park until 2024.
Almiron joins the Premier League side for a club-record fee of $27million after a successful two-year stint with Atlanta United, where he played an instrumental role in last season's MLS Cup victory. Newcastle's previous most expensive signing was Michael Owen, for whom the club splashed out $20million in 2005.
Speaking with NUFC TV following his unveiling, Almiron expressed his excitement at joining the ranks of Rafa Benitez's team: "I’m very happy and eager to start and to meet my new team mates.
"The league is very competitive, this is a historic club, and Rafa Benitez himself were the main reasons why I am here now.
"I think it is a great responsibility, something beautiful for me, and I will try to offer the best I can to repay the trust the club put in me."
