Jim Tomsula Fired As San Francisco 49ers Coach After Just One Season
Jim Tomsula has been fired as San Francisco 49ers coach, the NFL franchise announced on Sunday.
The San Francisco 49ers did not give the Jim Tomsula era much of a chance, firing the coach after just one NFL season.
The 49ers went 5-11 in Tomsula's only season as the team's head coach, a position he was promoted to after several years as their defensive line coach.
In a statement on Sunday, the 49ers confirmed Tomsula had been fired.
"Jimmy has been a valuable member of the 49ers organisation for the last nine years," chief executive Jed York said.
"We all know he is a man of high character, and his contributions on the field and in our community have always been greatly appreciated.
"This entire organisation is proud and grateful to have worked so closely alongside Jimmy. We all wish him and his family great success in the future."
The 49ers had numerous problems at quarterback this season, with Colin Kaepernick losing his starting job to former Jacksonville Jaguars first-round pick Blaine Gabbert.
