Cincinnati Bengals Suffer First Loss Of NFL Season As Houston Texans Step Up
The Houston Texans inflicted the Cincinnati Bengals' first loss of the NFL season with a hard-fought win.
The Cincinnati Bengals suffered their first loss of the NFL season, beaten 10-6 by the Houston Texans on Monday.
Texans quarterback T.J. Yates, who replaced the concussed Brian Hoyer, had a touchdown pass and completed five of 11 for 69 yards.
Hoyer was 12 of 22 for 123 yards and an interception before leaving late in the third quarter with a concussion.
Fifth-year quarterback Yates, who started seven games as a Texans rookie in 2011, came in and led the Texans on a touchdown drive on his first series.
He lofted a pass up to DeAndre Hopkins, who made an incredible sideline catch even as Adam Jones had tight coverage.
Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton had 197 yards and an interception after 22 of 38 completed passes.
It was the first loss of the season for the Bengals and a much-needed victory for the Texans, who remained tied with the Indianapolis Colts atop the AFC South despite a 4-5 record.
Neither offense was able to get much going in the first half with the Bengals holding a 6-3 lead at the break.
Yates' 22-yard pass for Hopkins in the fourth would prove decisive as the Texans inflicted the Bengals' first loss of the season.
