Sports Burst – Giovinco Jets Off on Transfer Deadline Day
Giovinco and Almiron leave MLS on winter window transfer deadline day
By Tim Stannard
A less than fond farewell as Giovinco leaves Toronto FC for Saudi Arabia
To lose one top, top, top player in the league is unfortunate is but three in a day is a big shame. Miguel Almiron's move to Newcastle United is expected to be confirmed on transfer deadline day (today!) for a fee of around $25 million.
However, one of the most entertaining footballers to grace MLS has left our North American shores. Sebastian Giovinco has left Toronto FC for Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal FC after a tremendous four years with the team. The 32-year-old was a regular in MVP prizes, MLS All-Star teams and scored 83 goals in in 142 appearances for Toronto.
"Four special years," noted Giovinco who joined from Juventus in 2015 as one of the standout players joining the league at the peak of their powers, rather than on the way down. However, the farewell was a little sour with the Italian noting that the two sides could not come up with a renewal agreement for his deal.
Add to this fresh reports linking DC United whizz Luciano Acosta with a shock move to Paris Saint-Germain. Yes, that Luciano Acosta, and yes, that Paris Saint-Germain. The Argentine formed a prolific partnership with Wayne Rooney last season, scoring 10 goals and providing 15 assists, and is apparently in the crosshairs of Thomas Tuchel as he prepares for 10 weeks sans Neymar.
With three fantastic footballers gone from the MLS world – as well as the loss of Tyler Adams, Alphonso Davies - Sports Burst has just one message for Zlatan today. Don't even think about it!
Jonny be good for permanent move to Watford from Atletico Madrid
Over in the Old World and there is quite the whirlwind of activity. Atletico Madrid have sealed a $23 million deal with Wolves that sees fullback, Jonny Otto, joining the EPL club permanently after a successful loan spell.
Arsenal has given up on signing Yannick Carrasco but is instead trying to pry midfielder Christopher Nkunku from PSG. A curious move considering PSG don't have too many midfielders and Arsenal has a lot. On a clean-up note, Dennis Suarez has been formally announced today as well by the Gunners.
From MVP for Jose Mourinho, to losing the hair, to leaving Manchester United, to being paid more money that anyone could ever need. That's the recent narrative for Marouane Fellaini who has left Old Trafford for Chinese Super League club Shandong Luneng. Hair today, gone tomorrow.
Tielemans off to Leicester as Crouchy returns to limelight
Need more gossip? Sports Burst is ready to bring the jelly.
Leicester City has made another push for Monaco midfielder, Youri Tielemans, who is set to join the EPL side on loan after enjoying a truly fabulous season so far with the Monte Carlo outfit.
Peter Crouch is back in the Premier League! The footballer is set to move from Championship side Stoke City to Burnley, in the most Burnley move imaginable.
Er…Anthony Martial just signed a new deal with Manchester United till 2024. Just to troll Jose Mourinho.

Real Madrid look to seal cup win over Girona and possible Copa Clasico
With Real Madrid 4-2 up in the team's quarterfinal Copa del Rey clash against Girona, there wasn't too much rolled into the preview with Santiago Solari able to avoid too much chat about crises, Isco, or Marcelo.
Instead, it was a comment from Pep Guardiola claiming that the Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Juventus have been the most successful sides of the past decade due to their respective domestic domination.
Solari was asked for his reaction and noted that it was a "deliberate omission" rather than an oversight from the Pep talk and said that he "won't be drawn into a fight over a decade." However, straight after he did point out that Madrid was the best team of the last century, the whole of history and the last decade thrown into good measure.
Find out if Solari can walk that walk after talking the talk as Real Madrid takes on Girona live on beIN SPORTS at 3:30PM ET / 12:30PM PT. And remember, if Madrid go through, there’s a 50-50 chance of a Copa del Rey Clasico pairing in the semifinals after Barcelona’s demolition of Sevilla yesterday.
