Aulas Casts Doubt Over Garcia's Future at Lyon
Rudi Garcia's future as Lyon coach is unlikely to extend beyond the current season, hinted club president Jean-Michel Aulas.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas cast doubt on head coach Rudi Garcia's future at the club in an interview with RMC Sport.
Garcia, who led Lyon to the Champions League semifinal last season, will be out of contract in June 2021, but is expected to be replaced in the summer following a disappointing start to the Ligue 1 campaign.
“This is a topic that is often brought up. I have said that we will take a position on it between now and the end of the season… It is not on the menu for the moment. We (the board) meet on December 31. I hope that we will be in first place at that point, so that we can look at things in a different way.”
“Rudi knows it, I speak often with him. He is totally in agreement with me to show things on the pitch and through the performances of the team we could eventually look at something.”
Pressed to respond if speculation was correct Garcia is unlikely to extend his contract, Aulas said: “You often have the right information.”
Lille manager Christophe Galtier has been heavily linked with the Lyon job after taking Les Dogues to second and fourth-place finishes in the last two Ligue 1 seasons.
