Maradona Would Struggle to Play at Real Sociedad - Imanol
The Argentina legend would find it difficult to dislodge David Silva, says Imanol Alguacil
Diego Maradona would not be guaranteed his game for Real Sociedad, according to head coach Imanol Alguacil.
The LaLiga side is set to host Maradona's former team, Napoli, in the Europa League on Thursday.
Asked if the Argentina legend would struggle to get his game for the Basque outfit, Imanol suggested Maradona's work rate could be an issue.
“He would undoubtedly struggle [to get his game]," the 49-year-old responded, "because to play for this team you have to run a lot and work hard.
“He’s not lacking in terms of quality, but perhaps in those other areas he wouldn’t be so great."
“We’ve got David Silva who almost possessions the same amount of quality, but he also brings the industry.
“In truth he [Maradona] would struggle to break into this Real Sociedad team.
“Saying that, it’s important to recognize he’s one of the greatest players of all time, but so too is David Silva.
“The other thing to note is that David is surrounded by great players, which has helped us to be so competitive.”
Real Sociedad currently sit top of the LaLiga standings after a five game winning streak.
