In the wake of Saturday’s embarrassing 53-14 home defeat to UCF, FIU’s sporting director Pete Garcia announced his decision to part ways with the program's head coach Ron Turner.
Turner was into his fourth year at the helm of the Golden Panthers and, following his dismissal, leaves the Southern Florida team with a 10-30 record.
FIU defensive coordinator Ron Cooper has been appointed to replace the 62-year-old as interim coach for the remainder of the season.
Turner's Golden Panthers got off to an abysmal start to the 2016 season, recording four straight losses to Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts and UCF and failing to get past the 14-point mark over four quarters.
