Pyeongchang 2018: Swiss star Meillard out of Winter Olympics
A training injury in Pyeongchang has ruled skier Melanie Meillard out of the Winter Olympics.
Melanie Meillard will miss the Winter Olympics after tearing her anterior cruciate ligament during giant slalom training in Pyeongchang on Thursday.
The 19-year-old Swiss is sixth in the World Cup slalom standings and earned a maiden podium finish in Oslo last month, but she will now miss out on the 2018 Games.
Meillard also sustained meniscus damage to her left knee and is expected to be sidelined for the rest of the season.
The Swiss Olympic team wished Meillard a speedy recovery as they announced the injury and she is set to return home for treatment.
