Stan Wawrinka required three sets to see off Lukas Rosol and secure a place in the final of the Geneva Open.

Wawrinka needed just 22 minutes to take a first-set lead, but a step up in aggression saw Rosol - ranked 68th in the world - take the match to its full distance.

The world number four was unable to capitalise on a break point in game four, but he did not make the same mistake at the next opportunity.

Wawrinka soon finished the match off 6-2 4-6 6-3, priming him to put the disappointing exits in Madrid and Rome behind him when he faces Marin Cilic for the title in what will be his final match before the Swiss begins his French Open defence.

Croatian Cilic went into his semi-final against David Ferrer having lost four of the pair's five meetings, and it looked like it would be a familiar story when he suffered an early break and soon found himself 4-2 behind.

Cilic showed great strength of character to draw level at 4-4 before taking the first set 7-5.

After the world number 11 took a 2-0 lead in the second, Ferrer fought back to lead 4-3 with a break of serve, but he was unable to hold onto the advantage in the next game.

And the usually obdurate Spaniard failed to serve to stay in the match as former US Open winner Cilic set up an enticing contest with the reigning Roland Garros champion.
