Vinci off to winning start in Nuremberg
Fourth seed Roberta Vinci made a winning start at the Nurnberger Versicherungscup with a straight-sets win over Vitalia Diatchenko.
Roberta Vinci put her Internazionali d'Italia disappointment quickly behind her with an emphatic first-round win over Vitalia Diatchenko at the Nurnberger Versicherungscup.
Vinci's French Open preparations suffered a shock in Rome as she was beaten in the first round by Heather Watson, but a repeat was never on the cards on Sunday.
The Italian took the opening five games in Germany against the battling Diatchenko, the fourth seed converting two of the eight break opportunities she created on the Russian's serve.
She raced into another early lead in the second and completed the win with a fifth break in the match to cruise into round two.
Vinci is joined by her Fed Cup team-mate Karin Knapp, who also recorded a straight-sets win, the sixth seed beating German wildcard Antonia Lottner 6-2 7-5.
Kurumi Nara ensured a safe progression for all three seeds on show as she held off the challenge of Polona Hercog to record a 7-5 5-7 6-2 victory.
The opening matches of this year's tournament also saw wins for Shuai Zhang and Evgeniya Rodina, the latter coming from a set down to beat Yanina Wickmayer.
Meanwhile, Rebecca Peterson, Alison Van Uytvanck, Andreea Mitu, Renata Voracova, Yulia Putintseva and Misaki Doi all earned first-round places with victories in qualifying.
