Qualifiers Aljaz Bedene and Laslo Djere will meet in a Hungarian Open semi-final on Saturday after dumping out Ivo Karlovic and Fernando Verdasco respectively on Friday.

Bedene has won the last three ATP Challenger Tour events he has entered and could add a 250 title this weekend after ousting second seed Karlovic 6-4 6-3 in Budapest.

The Brit needed just 63 minutes to see the back of a player ranked 46 places above him, winning 94 per cent of points on his first serve and not facing a solitary break point.

Veteran Croatian Karlovic failed to hold in the first game of the quarter-final and was broken twice in the second to suffer a surprise defeat.

Outsider Djere also defied the odds to oust Verdasco, coming from a set down to win 2-6 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 after digging deep to save nine break points.

Djere saved a match point at 5-4 down in the second set and went on to win the tie-break before responding to losing the first game of the third to reach the last four.

Top seed Lucas Pouille defeated Martin Klizan 6-4 6-3 to set up a semi-final with Paolo Lorenzi, who got the better of Andrey Kuznetsov in straight sets.
