Nadal ends title drought by winning Argentina Open
World number four Rafael Nadal beat Juan Monaco in a rain-delayed Argentina Open final to win his first title since the French Open.
Rafael Nadal secured his first title win since triumphing at last year's French Open by defeating home hope Juan Monaco in a weather-hit Argentina Open final.
Sunday's showpiece was hampered by rain delays but Nadal was not to be denied his record-equalling 46th clay court title of his career as he wrapped up a comprehensive 6-4 6-1 victory.
The Spaniard forced a crucial break at the second time of asking in the seventh game of the opening set and took firm control after that.
Monaco made a poor start to the second as he was broken in each of his first two service games and there was no way back for a player bidding to join fellow countryman David Nalbandian in winning the tournament.
Nadal clinched his first match point when a Monaco forehand went long, leaving the world number four relieved to have won his first tournament since triumphing at Roland Garros in June.
