Murray the king of Queen's once more
Just two hours after seeing off Viktor Troicki in his rain-delayed semi-final, Andy Murray won the Aegon Championships for the fourth time.
Andy Murray warmed up for Wimbledon with his fourth Aegon Championships title, winning two matches in one day at Queen's Club.
Just two hours after seeing off Viktor Troicki in his rain-delayed semi-final, Murray returned to the same court to down Kevin Anderson 6-3 6-4.
Murray's last-four meeting with Troicki carried over into Sunday after inclement weather in London, doubling his work load for the day.
But he showed his class with back-to-back straight-sets victories, offering a promising omen for the next grand slam on home soil.
The last time Murray won at Queen's, in 2013, he went on to be crowned Wimbledon champion.
Anderson, winner of only two singles titles, would have hoped to make his big serve count against one of the game's best returners.
But when a 141-miles-per-hour serve came back at the South African's toes on break point in the fourth game, he could only slice into the net as Murray moved 3-1 ahead.
That single break was the difference in the first set, despite Anderson's continued efforts to get on the front foot with some aggressive baseline hitting.
Anderson could not get ahead on Murray's serve and, when he lost his own to trail 3-2 in the second set, the size of the task became too great for the 29-year-old.
Murray's variety and the disguise on his drop shots flummoxed his opponent, who gamely scrambled around the court but could not stem the tide.
Still he made Murray work for it, turning what should have been a comfortable hold for the two-time grand slam winner into a narrow 40-30 success in game six.
Anderson, who last won a tournament in 2012, will take positives from his run to the final as he seeks to improve on his fourth-round showing at Wimbledon last year.
But Murray is the man with glory in his sights at the All England Club as he closed out a morale-boosting win with a superb serve out wide, beyond the reach even of the imposing Anderson.
