Muguruza shows class in opening win
Third seed Garbine Muguruza needed just an hour to advance at the Australian Open.
Garbine Muguruza crushed Anett Kontaveit in a clinical display at the Australian Open on Tuesday.
The Spaniard, among the favourites to challenge for the title, eased past Estonian Kontaveit 6-0 6-4 in just an hour on Rod Laver Arena.
Muguruza took little time to settle in the first-round cash, her flying start and power immediately putting Kontaveit on the back foot.
She clinched the first set in 23 minutes with a delicate backhand volley, having enjoyed plenty of success at the net.
Muguruza won seven of eight points at the net in the first set, while she approached less in the second.
In the end, the class difference was evident despite Kontaveit at least providing a bigger test in the second set.
