Mladenovic, Garcia and Paire provisionally suspended by FFT
Kristina Mladenovic, Caroline Garcia and Benoit Paire have been hit with provisional suspensions for "damaging the image of tennis".
The Federation of French Tennis (FFT) has provisionally suspended Kristina Mladenovic, Caroline Garcia and Benoit Paire from all national teams following incidents at Rio 2016.
Mladenovic publically criticised the FFT on Twitter after she and team-mate Garcia, winners at this year's French Open, were eliminated from the first round of the women's doubles at the Olympic Games.
The 23-year-old was unhappy at being told by officials ahead of their match against Misaki Doi and Eri Hozumi they could be disqualified if they did not change attire, with partners having to wear the same colours.
Mladenovic tweeted: "To be at the Olympics, about to start our match and be completely stressed because the ITF won't let us play in different colours.
"Thank you to our @FFT so incompetent for having ruined the sporting moment so important in the respective careers of @CaroGarcia and me!"
Garcia added in a separate post: "Nearly getting defaulted before our doubles match puts a lot of unnecessary stress on both Kristina and I. Just trying to understand how the FFT isn't aware of the official rules."
Paire was sent home from the Olympics for allegedly breaching team rules during his stay in the Olympic village, and the FFT has moved to provisionally suspend all three from future international competition
An official statement read: "Following the Olympic Games in Rio, the executive committee of the Federation of French Tennis met this Saturday, August 27, and discussed at length the case of the players who flouted the Federation and damaged the image of tennis.
"In the case of Kristina Mladenovic and Caroline Garcia who strongly criticised the Federation publically after their first-round doubles defeat, and second Benoit Paire who freed himself from the Olympic spirit and rules of the France team and was kicked out of the competition.
"The executive committee considers that the unacceptable attitude of these players deserves an appropriate response and that it should be established with care for each of them.
"Pending a final decision at its next meeting on September 24, the executive committee decided as a precaution [to] withdraw all support from the federation for these players [and] to suspend them from France team selections."
France are scheduled to take on Croatia in the Davis Cup semi-finals in September, while Czech Republic await in November's Fed Cup final.
