Defending champion Mirjana Lucic-Baroni reached the quarter-finals at the Coupe Banque Nationale with a straight-sets win over Tamira Paszek.

Lucic-Baroni, the 33-year-old Croatian, eased to a 6-3 6-3 victory over Paszek to continue her run at the WTA International event played on carpet in Quebec City.

Paszek, the 2010 champion, served seven double faults and was broken four times in the 71-minute loss.

Lucic-Baroni will face Samantha Crawford after the American qualifier proved too good for Russian seventh seed Evgeniya Rodina 6-3 6-3.

Fourth seed and 2012 runner-up Lucie Hradecka bounced back from a slow start to get past Amandine Hesse 1-6 6-3 6-4.

Lucky loser Naomi Broady advanced with a 6-4 6-2 win over Alexa Glatch.

Next up for Broady is Anna Tatishvili after the Georgia-born American overcame 19-year-old Louisa Chirico 6-2 3-6 6-4.
