Kuznetsova ends title wait with dominant Moscow triumph
Svetlana Kuznetsova claimed the 15th title of her career with a 6-2 6-1 victory over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova at the Kremlin Cup.
Svetlana Kuznetsova ended her 14-month wait for a WTA title at the Kremlin Cup as she cruised past defending champion Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in straight sets.
Kuznetsova was relentless in her pursuit of victory in Moscow and after a dominant second set claimed the 15th title of her career with a 6-2 6-1 success.
After a tight start to the match it was Kuznetsova who turned on the style to streak ahead, her athleticism around the court keeping her in every rally and forcing mistakes from Pavlyuchenkova.
As the errors began to creep in Kuznetsova took full advantage, reeling off four successive games from 2-2 to take the opening set in 42 minutes.
Even when Pavlyuchenkova's game came back to her she was still unable to make any impression on the match, Kuznetsova's endless running and composure allowing her to race to victory.
Two breaks in the second set ensured she finished by winning 10 of the final 11 games in the match, sealing her first tournament win since August 2014 when she triumphed in Washington DC.
