Kerber ends six-year wait for clay court title in Strasbourg


Former world number one and three-time Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber won her first claycourt title in more than six years with a marathon win over Kaja Juvan in the Strasbourg final.

In the longest WTA final of the year, the 22nd-ranked German won 7-6 (7/5), 6-7 (0/7), 7-6 (7/5) in 3 hours and 16 minutes against the world number 81 from Slovenia.

It was 34-year-old Kerber's first title of the season and 14th of her career. Her last clay trophy was in Stuttgart in 2016.
