Doi and Barthel to contest Luxembourg final
Mona Barthel stands between Misaki Doi and a maiden WTA Tour title at the Luxembourg Open, after the Japanese reached her first final.
Misaki Doi will feature in her maiden WTA final on Sunday after Alison van Uytvanck retired in their last-four meeting at the Luxembourg Open.
Doi, the world number 92, followed up her impressive victory over Jelena Jankovic by taking the first set 6-4 in the second of Saturday's semi-finals.
And Van Uytvanck then called a halt to her participation, ensuring Doi will face Mona Barthel for the title.
Barthel - a three-time winner on the WTA Tour whose last success came in Bastad last year - enjoyed a comfortable 6-2 6-3 victory over Stefanie Voegele earlier in the day.
After an even start, Barthel seized control by reeling off seven games in succession to win the first set and move 3-0 up in the second.
Another break of the Voegele serve put Barthel within a game of the final and, although the German then dropped serve for the first time, she duly served out the match at the second attempt.
