Doha masterclass as good as it gets for Djokovic
A 6-1 6-2 thrashing of Rafael Nadal in Doha left Novak Djokovic delighted. "I'm playing the tennis of my life," said the world number one.
Novak Djokovic felt he delivered a performance "as close to perfection as it can get" when thrashing Rafael Nadal to claim the Qatar Open title in Doha.
The dominant figure in men's tennis last year, Djokovic somehow appeared to hit new heights as he trounced Nadal 6-1 6-2 to win a sixth successive ATP Tour event.
Djokovic has reached 16 finals in a row since losing in the quarter-finals of last year's Qatar Open and seems to be on a completely different level to everyone else in the men's game.
Having been overwhelmed by the world number one's intensity and aggression, a stunned Nadal said: "I don't know anybody who played tennis like this ever."
And Djokovic acknowledged he had operated at the peak of his powers.
"When it was most needed against one of my biggest rivals, I managed to play the best tennis in a match where I fought for the trophy," explained the Serbian.
"It does definitely give me a great deal of confidence for the rest of the season.
"It did feel as close to perfection as it can get. Obviously from the first to the last point I managed to impose my own tactical approach and strategy and what I have kind of prepared myself for.
"I just came out on the court with the right intention, with the right intensity and with a great deal of confidence, as well, that I carried from the last season playing against him in the last couple of matches."
Djokovic could hardly be in better shape as he prepares to go in search of a sixth Australian Open title - and 11th grand slam - at Melbourne Park later this month.
"I'm playing the tennis of my life and I will try to nurture and cherish those moments on the court," he added.
"I will use this confidence level in every tournament that I play. I know that it can't go forever, but I'm not thinking too much ahead of myself."
