Clinical Klizan conquers Cuevas
Pablo Cuevas' hopes of earning a third title in 2016 were ended by the in-form Martin Klizan, who maintained his perfect record in finals.
Martin Klizan rounded off a fine week at the German Tennis Championships with a convincing victory over Pablo Cuevas in Sunday's final.
Klizan, playing in only his fourth tournament following a 10-week lay-off with a foot injury, had not dropped a set all week ahead of facing Cuevas in Hamburg.
And the seventh seed maintained his fine form to triumph 6-1 6-4 against a player 23 places above him in the rankings.
Cuevas had won two of the previous three finals he had reached in 2016, but swiftly fell behind as Klizan served impressively throughout a one-sided opening set.
The Uruguayan put up more of a fight thereafter, but came out on the wrong side of three successive breaks as Klizan neared the winning post.
Klizan has now won all five of his ATP World Tour finals, this latest success his second in 2016.
