Begu beats Babos to Brazil bounty
Irina-Camelia Begu claimed a third WTA title by beating Timea Babos in Florianopolis.
Irina-Camelia Begu defeated Timea Babos in three sets on Friday to win the Brasil Tennis Cup and claim her third WTA career title.
Romanian Begu, seeded second for the WTA International event in Florianopolis, came from behind to win 2-6 6-4 6-3 in two hours and nine minutes.
Ranked 13 places below her world number 31 opponent, sixth seed Babos did not face so much as a single break point in a polished first set, during which Begu gave up her serve twice.
It was a different story in the second and third sets though, as Babos was broken thrice in each.
Begu regained her composure and only gave up her serve once in the decider, securing her third triumph at WTA level, to go with successes at the Tashkent Open in 2012 and last year's Korea Open.
