Bacsinszky to meet Muguruza in Beijing final
Fifth seed Garbine Muguruza will meet Timea Bacsinszky in the China Open final after both recorded three-set wins in the semi-finals.
Timea Bacsinszky will break in the WTA top 10 next week after coming from a set down to seal her place in the China Open final on Saturday.
Bacsinszky's rise in the women's game shows no sign of stopping after she dug deep to send Ana Ivanovic crashing out in the semi-finals, the Swiss winning 5-7 6-4 6-1 in two hours and 21 minutes on court.
Ivanovic started the match well with an early break, but needed another in the 12th game to take the opening set after Bacsinszky had brought the match back on serve.
That was as good as it got for the Serb – who is now out of contention for the WTA Finals – as she lost her rhythm and became frustrated, with errors creeping into her game.
Bacsinszky broke three times in the second set with some powerful hitting, and although Ivanovic fought back the match was level when the 26-year-old converted her third set point.
The decider was a nightmare for Ivanovic as her touch disappeared, Bacsinszky winning the final four games to progress and keep her chances of reaching Singapore next month alive.
She will meet Garbine Muguruza in the final on Sunday after the Spaniard also came from behind to seal her place against Agnieszka Radwanska, the 22-year-old winning 4-6 6-3 6-4.
It will be Muguruza's third final of 2015, having achieved the feat at Wimbledon and again in Wuhan last month – when she retired injured against Venus Williams.
She has quickly recovered from that ankle injury and progressed well in Beijing, sealing her WTA Finals place along the way.
Her semi-final started slowly as Radwanska rattled off four successive games to take the opening set, but Muguruza's power began to have more effect in the second as she levelled with her second set point.
And she had too much for her more experienced opponent in the decider, winning four games in succession in the middle of the set proving critical as she remains in the hunt for her first title of 2015.
