Bacsinszky through in Morocco, Robson among the winners again
Laura Robson's long wait for a WTA victory ended at the Grand Prix de SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem while Timea Bacsinszky also won.
Timea Bacsinszky did enough to see off Anna Blinkova in the first round of the Grand Prix de SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem on Tuesday, while Laura Robson won on the main WTA Tour for the first time since 2013.
Top seed Bacsinszky is ranked some 450 places above the Russian, but the world number 15 showed some frailties by dropping serve on three occasions.
Blinkova had her own trouble on serve as well, though, and Bacsinszky's quality shone through in a 6-4 6-2 win.
Robson was ranked inside the world's top 50 in 2013, but the Briton spent over a year and a half on the sidelines with a wrist injury and has plummeted to 426.
However, the 22-year-old proved too good for home favourite Ghita Benhadi in a 6-1 6-1 victory, Robson wrapping up the win in just 52 minutes.
Fourth seed Irina-Camelia Begu suffered an early defeat, though, the Romania dumped out by lucky loser Richel Hogenkamp in a 6-3 6-4 defeat.
Lesia Tsurenko and Yulia Putintseva, the seventh and eighth seeds, safely progressed. The former was a 6-4 6-0 winner over Silvia Soler-Espinosa, while the latter saw off Alison Riske 6-3 7-6 (7-1).
Marina Erakovic is another player whose ranking has suffered due to injury, but the New Zealander, who had to come through qualifying, showed signs of her talent in a 6-2 6-3 beating of Andreea Mitu.
Tatjana Maria, Sara Sorribes Tormo, Aleksandra Krunic and Kateryna Kozlova are all safely through to round two having earned straight-set wins.
