Rio Recap: Bolt, Eaton the stars
Ashton Eaton and Usain Bolt were the stars on the track, as Ryan Lochte's story about his Rio robbery unraveled.
- Usain Bolt was the man of the moment once more, completing the second part of his attempted 'triple-triple' by winning the 200 metres in 19.78 seconds at the Olympics.
- While the Jamaican went back-to-back-to-back, Ashton Eaton won his second straight decathlon, becoming the first man since 1984 to achieve that feat.
- American Ryan Lochte's story continues to unravel, with Rio police saying "no robbery" took place after the swimmer alleged to have been stolen from at gunpoint.
- The United States' women's basketball team are a win away from a sixth consecutive gold, reaching the final and setting up a clash with Spain.
- Alistair Brownlee beat brother Jonny to men's triathlon gold, successfully defending the title he won for Great Britain in 2012.
- Japanese wrestling great Saori Yoshida suffered a shock loss, beaten for the third time in 14 years as Helen Maroulis won gold in the 53 kilogram.
QUOTES OF THE DAY
"I am trying to be one of the greatest. Be among [Muhammad] Ali and Pele. I hope after these Games I will be in that bracket," - Bolt knows how he wants to be remembered.
"Anyone can win it. That's what I told myself. I just didn't want to look at Goliath and get scared," - Maroulis on how she approached her wrestling bout with Yoshida.
"I'm a builder and my boss told me that if I won a medal, I could order him round for the day," - good news for Kiwi Tomas Walsh, who won bronze in the shot put.
"Maybe I come back to Turkey with a medal, maybe my mother will say 'My son is incredible'," - Yasmani Copello just wanted to please his mum, and he took home bronze in the men's 400m hurdles.
UNSUNG HERO
Ahmad Abughaush delivered Jordan's first ever Olympic medal – and it was gold.
The 20-year-old won the men's under 68kg, overcoming Russian Alexey Denisenko in the gold medal contest.
Abughaush said: "It's an indescribable feeling to win the first medal in the history of Jordan in all the sports.
"It's also a great feeling to listen to the national anthem of Jordan being played in Rio in front of the whole world."
"[Prince of Jordan] said congratulations," he added.
"He said he was very happy and he was telling me about how all of the people of Jordan are very happy and are even shedding tears of happiness for me."
MEDAL WATCH
USA took their tally of medals to 100 (35 gold, 33 silver and 32 bronze) at Rio 2016, as Jordan won their first ever. Great Britain are still second ahead of China.
COMING UP – Bolt looks to complete 'triple-triple'
Bolt and the Jamaica 4x100m relay team are looking for their third straight Games win as one of seven athletics golds up for grabs. The United States meet Spain in a men's basketball semi-final. Meanwhile, USA face Italy for gold in the women's water polo.
AND FINALLY...
Every athlete celebrates a gold medal differently – just ask Japanese wrestler Risako Kawai.
Kawai took out the women's 63 kilogram with a win over Belarus' Maryia Mamashuk on Thursday.
Her celebration? As her coach seemingly approach for a hug, she threw him to the mat. Twice.
