Olympics: Nadal pulls out of mixed doubles, ends treble bid
Rafael Nadal gave up on his dream of an Olympic Games gold medal treble on Thursday when he withdrew from the mixed doubles.
The 30-year-old, who is returning from a wrist injury, had been due to partner Garbine Muguruza but they pulled out just before their first round match.
Nadal had already played twice on Thursday, winning a place in the singles quarter-finals and a spot in Friday's men's doubles gold medal match with lifelong friend Marc Lopez.
