Neff claims first European Games gold medal
The first gold medal has been won at the inaugural European Games and it has gone to mountain biker Jolanda Neff of Switzerland.
Switzerland's Jolanda Neff won the first gold medal on offer at the inaugural European Games in Baku on Saturday, riding to glory in the women's mountain bike event.
The 22-year-old was hot favourite for victory at the Mountain Bike Velopark and completed the course in one hour 31 minutes and five seconds to live up to her billing.
Neff finished ahead of compatriot Kathrin Stirnemann and bronze-medallist Maja Wloszczowska of Poland.
"It's an amazing event here at the first European Games, and to win the first gold medal feels amazing," said Neff.
