Napoli loose further ground to league leaders Juve following 0-0 stalemate with Torino
Napoli lost further ground in a Serie A title race after a frustrating 0-0 draw with Torino on Sunday evening. Carlo Ancelotti's side had the better of the exchanges and should have taken the lead when Lorenzo Insigne's strike smashed against the upright with 15 minutes left in the second half.
The Neopolitans made their intentions clear from the very start. Jose Callejon's audacious backheel was saved from close range from Torino keeper Salvatore Sirigu, and Arkadiusz Milik missed a clear goal scoring opportunity.
Milik was again guilty of missing a golden opportunity midway through the half and missed a chance from close range after Fabian Ruiz drilled in a cross from the left-hand side. Whilst in stoppage time, Torino created the first chance of note although Tomas Rincon's snapshot was decisively halted by Koulibaly.
Ancelotti gambled in the second half bringing on Dries Mertens and Simone Verdi in order to break the deadlock. On the 75th minute, Insigne saw his effort slam against the post, it would be the closest the Neapolitans would come. In second-half stoppage time, VAR interveined as Napoli midfielder Alan was given a second yellow, but technology intervened alerting the referee to a case of mistaken identity, meaning that teammate Kévin Malcuit picked up the card instead.
