Thomas plans to be more selfish at Tour de France
Geraint Thomas is targeting a top-10 finish at next year's Tour de France.
Team Sky rider Geraint Thomas will not sacrifice himself for team-mate and reigning Tour de France champion Chris Froome as he eyes a top-10 finish at next year's race.
This year saw Thomas play a support role to Froome, who claimed his second Tour de France general classification victory.
Thomas' efforts saw him falter late as finished 15th overall at the premier race.
This time around, with Richie Porte moving to BMC Racing, Thomas is planning to be more selfish in his bid for success.
"The Tour is going to be my main goal. I want to go there as a quality back-up guy for Chris - still go there and support him 100 per cent but think about myself a bit more in that first half of the race," the 29-year-old told Sky Sports News.
"This year I didn't think about myself once and gave loads all the way through and ended up blowing up with three days to go, so hopefully I can make it through the whole Tour.
"If I can be top 10 or top five next season while still doing my job for Chris, that would be awesome, because it's still all about winning the Tour."
