Sensational Peaty smashes his own world record
Adam Peaty did not hold back in his heat in Budapest, touching the wall in 26.10 seconds to smash the 50 metre breaststroke world record.
Adam Peaty smashed his own 50 metre breaststroke world record in a heat at the FINA World Championships on Tuesday.
The Briton retained his 100m breaststroke title in Budapest on Monday and will take some stopping in his quest for another World Championships double after clocking 26.10 seconds to break new ground in the 50m breaststroke.
Peaty set the previous record of 26.42secs at the World Championships in Kazan two years ago and goes from strength to strength after claiming his first Olympic title in the 100m breaststroke last year.
The 22-year-old touched the wall almost half a second before South Africa's Cameron van der Burgh as he eased through to the semi-finals, which are staged later in the day in the Hungarian capital.
Peaty stated his intent by saying "hopefully we'll see something special" after claiming the 100m title and he did not disappoint.
