'Nothing is for certain', says Bulls star Butler amid trade talk
The Chicago Bulls traded Derrick Rose, and there were rumours they wanted to trade Jimmy Butler as well.
Jimmy Butler thinks he will be playing for the Chicago Bulls in 2016-17 but the NBA All-Star insists nothing is certain following intense trade talk.
After the Bulls dealt star team-mate Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks, Butler was the subject of interest on NBA Draft night last week.
The two-time All-Star was linked with the Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves after a testy first year under head coach Fred Hoiberg, though no deal materialised.
Asked whether he thought he would be traded, Butler told ESPN: "I don't think anything is for certain. I really don't.
"I love the city of Chicago, Chicago basketball, I think everybody knows that.
"They drafted me, I've been here my entire career. Nothing is for certain."
Butler, who will represent Team USA at the Olympic Games in August, averaged 20.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.8 assists for the Bulls in 2015-16.
The 26-year-old added: "I'm trying to be in the best shape possible. Keep my body right for this upcoming season.
"I think it's going to be for the Chicago Bulls."
Quizzed on Rose's departure to New York, Butler said: "I can't say I was surprised. I knew it had to be one of us."
Throughout the season there was a narrative in the media that Butler and Rose did not get along with one another, but he said that was not the case.
Butler felt like if the Bulls - who missed the play-offs - won more games, the media would not have come up with an excuse.
"We'd probably still be team-mates, to tell you the truth," he said.
