Jazz guard Exum injures left knee on international duty
Dante Exum is facing a nervous wait on the prognosis of his left-knee injury sustained playing for Australia on Tuesday.
Utah Jazz guard Dante Exum could be facing up to one year on the sidelines, after sustaining a left-knee injury on international duty with Australia.
Exum was appearing for the Boomers against Slovenia - a match they went on to win 66-51 on Tuesday - in the Australians' final tour match in Europe ahead of Rio 2016 qualifiers on home soil.
But instead of boarding the plane to Melbourne, Exum - who the Jazz took with pick five in the 2014 NBA Draft - is now bound for Utah to undergo tests to determine the extent of the injury with fears he has ruptured his ACL.
A Jazz statement read: "Exum was initially treated on site and will now return to Salt Lake City for further medical evaluation by the Utah Jazz medical staff and official healthcare partner University of Utah Health Care."
Driving to the paint, Exum jumped to shoot but flung his head back in pain after putting pressure on his left leg.
The 20-year-old later appeared courtside with a bandaged knee, and was on crutches.
Exum's NBA off-season has been blighted by injury, as he sprained an ankle in the Jazz's Summer League opener in early July.
Australia will begin their quest to qualify for the Olympics in Brazil, when they take on New Zealand in the first game of a two-match series in Melbourne on August 15.
