Injured Walker out of Wales World Cup squad
Ross Moriarty has been called into Wales' World Cup squad after winger Eli Walker sustained a hamstring injury.
Wales winger Eli Walker has been ruled out of the Rugby World Cup with a hamstring injury less than a week after being drafted in as a replacement.
Head coach Warren Gatland called Walker - whose only appearance for Wales came against Ireland last month - and Mike Phillips into his squad following injuries to Leigh Halfpenny and Rhys Webb.
However, Walker's injury is set to rule him out until at least the latter part of the pool stages, leading Wales to call up flanker Ross Moriarty in his place.
"Eli Walker has been released from Wales' Rugby World Cup squad due to a hamstring injury," read a statement from the Welsh Rugby Union.
"Due to the nature of the impending competition and the potential for his injury to extend into the latter stages of the pool stage, the decision has been made to release Eli at present.
"Gloucester flanker Ross Moriarty has been called into Wales' 31-man squad and will link up with the rest of the squad tomorrow."
Wales' World Cup campaign gets underway against Uruguay at the Millennium Stadium on Sunday.
