Former Giants DB Tyler Sash found dead
Tyler Sash, who was part of the New York Giants' Super Bowl championship team in 2011, died aged 27.
Former New York Giants defensive back and 27-year-old Tyler Sash passed away on Tuesday.
Sash, who helped lead the Giants to the 2011 Super Bowl championship, was found dead in his home by a family member who came to walk his dog, according to KCCI in Des Moines.
Police in Sash's hometown of Oskaloosa, Iowa, later issued a statement confirming his death.
"On Tuesday September 8, 2015 at around 10:00 a.m. emergency services responded to 719 Fox Run Drive, Oskaloosa in reference to an unresponsive male," the statement said.
"Upon arrival it was determined the male subject was deceased and after further investigation the male was identified as Tyler Jordan Sash, age 27, of Oskaloosa Iowa."
Sash was a sixth-round pick by the Giants in the 2011 NFL Draft and played in all 16 games that season as the New York franchise made an improbable run to the Super Bowl title.
He was suspended from the first four games of the 2012 season after testing positive for Adderall, which is on the NFL's list of banned substances. Sash later said had had a prescription for the drug to help him with the anxiety of public speaking.
Sash's brief NFL career ended on August 31 in 2013, when the Giants released him. Sash earned more than $800,000 during his time in the NFL and used that money to start a charity in Iowa.
